Thermal Imaging Surveys
Our thermal imaging camera is a reliable non contact state-of-the-art instrument which is able to scan and visualise the temperature distribution of entire surfaces of machinery and electrical equipment quickly and accurately, without putting our electricians in danger.
In production plants, office facilities, hospitals or hotels, the infrared camera instantly makes hot spots visible on a clear thermal image. Our camera can scan electrical cabinets and components and survey multiple wires and connections to get an instant picture of potential trouble, detect the problem area and repair it before real problems occur. Common electrical targets are fuses, electrical panels, bolted connections and switchgear.
If you would like to have a survey carried out at your workplace or site, accompanied by a comprehensive report, please contact the Ampman today on free call 1300 645 627.
This is what our eyes don’t see. Our thermal imaging camera has detected some hot spots. This allows our electricians to reduce the risk of what could be potentially dangerous if left any longer.
Mains & Switchboard Upgrades
You may find that you will need to make alterations to your switchboards as your facilities are upgraded or expanded - simply changing or adding lighting or new technologies may result in more power being drawn than your existing switchboard can handle.
Ampman Electrics have the capability to manufacture, customise and install the correct switchboard to match your power demand, now and into the foreseeable future. We will seamlessly coordinate with the relevant bodies and Energex to ensure that connection schedules are made and carried out as planned.
As part of our quality service we are always happy to help and work with you to find a convenient time to carry out your work that will minimise any impact to your business.
We also offer other services such as:
- Metering/measuring your power demand
- Separating your switchboards
- Altering or re-allocating your power circuits
- Consulting and designing for new or renovated projects
- Constructing switchboards to engineer specifications for new projects
Grid Connect Solar Power
Advantages of Solar Power
- Sustainable energy supply.
- Generation of your own free electricity.
- Reduction in your house/premises greenhouse gas emissions.
- Long lifespan.
- Noiseless with no moving parts.
- Ideal for remote areas
How it Works
The sun provides energy in the form of light and heat. We have traditionally used the sun to heat water and food and to dry clothes and now we can use it to produce electricity. The energy produced from using the sun's energy is called solar power.
Solar power or solar photovoltaic systems takes light from the sun and converts it to electricity to power your house or workplace.
When the sun is shining solar panels generate electricity. The inverter feeds this energy to the local electricity grid. Smart metering records your power generation to the grid during the day. At night your house/workplace draws energy from the grid.
Solar power systems convert the energy from sunlight into Direct Current (DC) electricity.
An inverter then converts this direct current to 240V Alternative Current (AC) to make it compatible with grid electricity.
Our Process
Switching to solar power is simple and affordable.
We apply for the rebates and arrange for installation using our Clean Energy Council accredited installers.
Network connection is arranged just after the installation and requires the sign-off by Ampman Electrics and Energex accredited inspectors.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does grid connect solar system mean?
A grid connect solar system acts as a mini power station on your roof, feeds power to your house/workplace and surplus power back to the grid.
How does a grid connect solar system work?
Solar panels convert sunlight into DC electricity. An inverter then converts this into 240 volt AC electricity. This electricity powers your house. Any excess electricity is fed out into the main electricity grid and is bought by the power provider. You can reduce your power bill significantly so that you have little or nothing to pay. You will also reduce your house greenhouse gas emissions by several tonnes per year.
What are some of the benefits of solar electricity?
Benefits provided by a grid connect solar system include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing electricity bills, ongoing electricity savings and an enhanced property value.
Where should the panels be installed?
Panels are usually installed on the roof of your house/workplace, shed or garage. They can also be mounted on the ground. Solar panels are located to maximise exposure to the sun and to minimise shading. A north facing roof at 30o is optimum however orientation within 45o east or west of north results only in marginal power losses.
Are there government rebates?
We individually assess your needs to make sure all eligible Government schemes are utilised. We assist you with the application forms and do all the paperwork for you.
Does my electricity bill get credited?
Yes it does. Some electricity providers pay the same amount for the electricity your solar system generates as they charge you for regular electricity. If you are away on holidays your solar system will continue to produce electricity.
Who installs the system?
We do! Installation by our licensed electricians and certified installers will take about a day. We also show you how to ensure optimal operation of the system at all times.
How much maintenance is required?
Very little, apart from keeping the panels clean. The panels provided by Ampman Electrics are guaranteed for 25 years.
What if the grid goes down?
Your system is designed to automatically shut down too. For safety reasons, the electricity provider requires your system to be isolated from the grid when the grid is dead. However optional batteries can be installed so that power is available even when the grid fails. In the event of a blackout, the batteries continue to supply power to the house without interruption.
What is an inverter?
The grid connect inverter converts the DC electricity from your solar panels into 240 volt AC electricity.
Are all systems the same?
A grid connect solar system is manufactured from a variety of components such as solar panels, an inverter, aluminum frames and stainless steel fasteners. Ampman Electrics use only premium brands from work leading manufacturers. This offers optimum performance and longevity. We generally do not recommend cheaper panels and inverters.
Which system should I buy?
Most commonly people install systems between 1,500 - 2,000 Watts. These will run an entire energy efficient household. Many customers are able to reduce their energy consumptions by 30-50% with some simple efficiency measure. The remainder is then produced by the solar system.
So what is the next step?
Just contact us at Ampman Electrics. We are happy to arrange a time that suits. We will analyse your current power bill, the orientation of your house and your energy usage to ensure we offer the best solution to suit your budget.
Appliance Testing & Tagging
Does your workplace comply with the current legislative requirements?
Employers have a legal obligation to ensure that all electrical appliances, accessories and specified equipment is regularly tested and tagged as ‘electrically safe’.
Ampman Electrics will visually check all items and then test them with our state of the art testing equipment. If the item passes, it is fitted with a durable tag, if it fails, it is put aside for repair or replacement at your discretion. We can carry out any repairs on site, the same day if requested. All results are recorded on our test log sheet, having been entered electronically, a copy of which is forwarded to you for your records and is entered into our system for a reminder to be sent, emailed or texted to you prior to your next test being due.
As part of our quality testing service, we offer:
- Appliance Testing and Tagging
To comply with Workplace Health and Safety legislation, this is a good rule for offices have their appliances tested and tagged annually and workshops have their tools tested and tagged quarterly.
- RCD Test - 6 monthly & 12 monthly
RCD (Residual Current Device) testing is also known as Safety Switch Testing. This should be carried out with routine maintenance every 6-12 months depending on the power circuit usage and requirements of the facility.
- Emergency Light Testing
To ensure that your emergency lights run correctly off their emergency backup batteries, they should be tested annually.
If you have any questions relating to appliance testing and tagging, please contact us today on free call 1300 645 627.
